I am unable to use any of the action buttons or drop down list boxes to perform functions in my chat room. For example, If I click on the T button to change the topic, I get the error: ***#%$C You’re not in that channel. If I type the IRC commands directly, they work fine. I have tried using the NickServ, Chanserv and Botserv and get similar messages. The commands list seems to work part of the time. Once in a while I get a java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: -1<0 error when clicking on these buttons. The V- button seems to always cause this error.

I am running Windows XP Pro with IE 6. The link to the chat room is located at http://www.ijetski.com on the lower left side of the page.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Hello,

Everything seems to be working fine for me. I’m using Win 2K and IE 6.0 here.

I noticed this quote at your site.. “Note: It may take up to 60 seconds for the chat server to log you into the MCPWCA room. Please be patient.”

The chat room loads in a few seconds depending on the users setup. Some users with firewalls will have a slower load time do to the fact that my chat servers scan for open, insecure proxies and denies access to anyone trying to connect to my network with one. I know XP has a built in fire wall. Have a look at this link, maybe it will help:

It may be possible that some browser setting needs to be adjusted…

I did find some errors since I uploaded a new applet version. The old applet needed a work-around I created in javascript and this new version does not seem to need the work-around and so the fix for the old applet was breaking the new one.

Let me know how things go. Also, remember to refresh your chat room window to load the new javascript.

I along with a few others trying to access the chat room are behind broadband routers (NAT).

When connecting, I get the following messages

    *** Looking up your hostname…

    *** Checking ident…

*** Checking for open socks server…

    *** Couldn’t resolve hostname

    *** No ident response

Then I am finally dropped into the chat room. It takes between 30 – 60 seconds for this to happen. Once in the chat room, very few of the functions in the drop down list boxes work. I have tried this on 3 different systems and they all behave the same. It may have something to do with being behind the NAT and then app not collecting the necessary info it needs to work correctly.

An example error is when I click on the commands drop down list and select “give a small hug”. I get a java index array out of bounds error. This occurs when I select some of the actions on the right graphical menu.

I just updated the applet and there were some changes needed with the drop down menus. I do believe I have it working now but will check again. Make sure you refresh the window the chat room is in to load the new java script over the old cached one. The firewall is what is slowing down the connection times. Usualy it only takes about 3 to 4 seconds to connect.

The ident or lack of an ident is not a big deal. Nor is the resolving of the host name. If your host name does not resolve it will still allow you to connect with your static IP address. The open socks check/proxie scan is what slows down your connection times. If your behind a firewall the scan takes longer. What this is looking for is users trying to connect using an insecure proxie. If they are doing so they are denied connection. This is for security/safty reasons for all users on the network and the network itself.

I do believe I have them java errors fixed so please try refreshing the room using right click and selecting “refresh” and let the room load again. Let me know if you find other errors. I’ll keep fixing them as needed. These java script errors are being caused by a work-around I used for a flaw in the older applet. The new applet doesn’t need the work-around and now the java has errors where there was none before.
