I have been down the WAP road a few times in the past. As far as I can tell there isn’t a viable solution for real-time IRC chat at this time. Perhaps when mobile devices have larger memories and are able to run java applets over a larger block of bandwidth we’ll be able to use our cell phones to connect to IRC.
