For some reason, when I log onto my chatroom and /msg NickServ with my password to confirm my registered nick, I don’t get ops right away even though I’m in the Auto-Op list. I actually have to re-join the channel by joining the same channel I’m already in.
Just for clarification, here’s how the sequence of messages goes. Things prefaced with a > are things that I type. The *s are my password.
*** Mode change “+ixp” for user Sokko by Sokko
–NickServ– This nickname is registered and protected. If it is
–NickServ– nick, type /msg NickServ IDENTIFY password. Otherwise,
–NickServ– please choose a different nick.
*** Sokko ([email protected]) just joined the channel #chschat
*** Mode change “+snt” on channel #chschat by Milwaukee.US.ChattersOnline.com
*** Mode change “+r” on channel #chschat by ChanServ
*** ChanServ has changed the topic to “” on #chschat
–ChanServ– This channel has been registered with ChanServ.
*** Mode change “-ahoq Sokko Sokko Sokko Sokko ” on channel #chschat by Chanserv
> /msg NickServ IDENTIFY *******
<Sokko * NickServ> IDENTIFY ******
–NickServ– Password accepted – you are now recognized.
(note that at this point I still don’t have ops)
> /join #chschat
*** You just left the channel #chschat
*** Sokko ([email protected]) just joined the channel #chschat
*** Mode change “+snt” on channel #chschat by Milwaukee.US.ChattersOnline.com
*** Mode change “+r” on channel #chschat by ChanServ
*** ChanServ has changed the topic to “” on channel #chschat
*** Mode change “+q Sokko ” on channel #chschat by ChanServ
*** Mode change “+o Sokko ” on channel #chschat by ChanServ
And now I have ops and it works fine. An odd way to do things, if I do say so myself. Will the regular folk who come here from my web site still be able to get on okay? I’d hope they don’t have to re-join the channel to join it (sounds weird, I know).
March 28, 2004 at 9:26 pm #3271aLeSsParticipantIf you read or searched a little bit these forum boards, you saw this following command to op yourself:
/chanserv op
This will give you an @ next your name, without rejoin the channel you’re already in *duh*

Odd though, because highlighting your own name and using the “+O” button doesn’t work, so you’d think all other methods of opping yourself would also not work (which is what I thought in this situation).
