Maybe I sound ignorant, but I’m fairly new to this. I registered to be able to copy the code onto my web page but is that what you mean by register your nickname and register your room? Also…what do you mean by identify yourself? Thanks for your help!

ah I had this problem. Go to the FAQ and take the 5 step process titled “take control of the chat room” or something like that. You have to be in the chatroom at the time of doing this process.

Are you the first and only visitor in your chatroom? And did you do the things misty said?

Everyone is once new,.. So you aren’t dumb or anything

This board is ONLY so that you can make a chatbox. Nothing else. To register your nickname and chatbox, you have to be IN THE CHATBOX.

Identify is a sort of login to your chatbox. The nickserv will recognize you so you are ‘logged in’

From that moment you are able to register your room.

Everything about that you can find @ the following link:

OK…I’m still a little confused. I’ve been able to register my room and registered all my users. But now no one can set the topic because it says we are not the channel operator.

I have tried ‘logging in’ with the nick that I registered the room, but nothing. Then after logging in with that nick, I’ve also tried using /chanserv access #RoomName add RegisteredNick 5, but I get a message saying that I can’t use that command.

    PLEASE HELP!

You have to OP yourself.. type:

    /chanserv op

You get an @ next your name, than you’re able to change the room topic

Nothing? What’s the problem than? Did you type:

    /Nickserv identify [password] ???

Then after logging in with that nick,….

OK.. Am I getting this wrong? You were not able to log in?

Thats probably because you didn’t identify and take control with the OP command..

Do that.. And after that change “access” into “aop”

    That will help!!

Are you the owner of the room? You hould be oped once you identify and enter your room.

I believe I am the owner of the room. How would I determine that?

Did you register it? Then your the owner.

After you registered your nickname with:

    /nickserv register SomeName SomePassword SomeEmailAddress

you can register a room, provided you have the @’s next to your name:

    /chanserv register #SomeRoom SomePassword SomeDescriptionOfRoom

Then you will need to identify with nickserv thereafter with:

    /nickserv identify SomePassword

    and then you can type:

    /chanserv op

and you should be given @’s (channel operator status).

Once you have identified you can add users to your room. The following command will add a room operator:

    /chanserv aop #SomeRoom add SomeRegisteredNickname

or you can add a +v voiced user (no not an audio thing) with this command:

    /chanserv vop #SomeRoom add SomeRegisteredNickname

If you want to use the ACCESS command you will need to disable the XOP system which is used by default when a room is registered. To do so you need to type the following command:

    /chanserv set #SomeRoom xop off

then you can use the ACCESS command to add users accordingly.

    Hope this helps.

sorry…may be a stupid question…but what is the purpose of adding voiced users and the ACCESS option?

+v (voiced) users can send text to the room when the room is in +m moderated mode.

The access command allows for more flexible access levels.
