i am having trouble getting the chat code to recognize a sever adress. It will also some times ask for a login name and some times it won’t

If your using the chat code correctly there should be no issues over the server address.

What exactly are you doing and where is the code located? (the URL)

I’ll take a look and see what could be going wrong.

ok thank you. this is the first time i have tried to do a chat room on my site which is still under construction. Exactly what it is doing is the page will load fine and ask for a nick name and a nick name password, then it say some thing like connecting to milwauke sever…… and i guess it just freezes after that. if you could help that would be great.

    thanx

What is your website’s URL? Also, are you using a Mac computer? If so you may or may not have problems using this chat applet.

Ok I took a look at your chat room. I clicked on the “click to chat” link and the window opened and the chat room loaded. The only problem I can see is that you forgot to place underscores _ in place of the spaces.

Your room name is “The Chat Room” and it should be “The_Chat_Room” (without quotes).

    Hope that helps.

Yes it does. A mac will be more problematic dependant on OS and browser used. OS 9 is best with Netscape 4.7 and OS X is better with NS 6.0+ or IE 5.0

Macs also have some other limitations where applets and java script is concerned. The smilies will not work when clicked on while using a mac and most of the other features too.
